Totally loving yourself: loving yourself totally

  Those of you who have worked with EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) will be familiar with the phrase:  “Even though I ….  (input some unwanted feeling and related event) I totally and completely love myself. ” Do you totally and completely love yourself no matter what it is that is going on in your life?  This is an interesting inward turning of unconditional love.  Reflecting on this, you could wonder if your yearning for unconditional love from others could be totally solved if you simply unconditionally loved yourself.

What would it look like if you were to totally and completely love yourself?  It would mean that no matter how much you were unhappy with a choice you had made, with how you look or perhaps how you have not done well in a particular activity, you would still totally love yourself. It would mean that even if you knew that you were sometimes irritating, or bossy, or negative, or sometimes unkind, you would be  quite aware of your pitfalls and love yourself anyway.   

Hmmmm. If you really loved all parts of yourself, then would you be defensive when other people point those things out to you? 

The above is an overly simplified reflection on “the shadow”.  I personally have found that working with and loving my shadow side is difficult, and rewarding.  It does make a difference.   

Ponder these things and, like me, you will likely learn something new about yourself.  It is another step in learning  to totally and completely love yourself …  no matter what

Life Meaning

Had a wonderful day working with two open and caring people in the all-day intensive Blueprint for Embracing Life with Meaning.   Loved watching their work unfold into actually creating a blueprint for themselves that they can  modify, build on and then use  as a guide to make important life decisions.  They were great.  Very inspiring day.  A long day. But inspiring!  Thank you.

The fit between facilitator and participant is key.

 

It makes a difference when the participants are really ready to work with the material and experiences being offered to them.  The right fit between the workshop leader and the people coming together to benefit from the process is essential to the success of the time together.  That is why I prefer to work with people with whom I have had some previous contact, even if just  a phone call.

The process that is key to the work in Blueprint for Embracing Life with Meaning requires people wanting to get a handle on what is meaningful to them.  That was the best part of the day today.  Working with people who want to move forward, inspires me and that inspires them.  It is a spiral.

I find leading this kind of workshop is very connected to who I am.  When that part of me connects with the core of the participants, my sense of meaning is fulfilled and I feel inspired too.  The energy exchange is uplifting and effective.

Individual Appointments: Learn more and schedule an appointment

Perhaps energy work is new to you.  Or perhaps not.  It is important that you feel safe and comfortable with anyone who is working in your energy field.  This is why I am explaining how I would work with you. 

Remember that there are a variety of techniques for working with energy.  What is most important is trust and that the technique used suits the situation to be addressed.  Given this, it is best when the practitioner and the client are in rapport, and have established a common “intention” for the energy work.

Your first visit with me usually takes about an hour and a half.  At this time there is an opportunity for building a trusting and caring relationship, and general assessment of the situation.  It also gives you, the client, the opportunity to see if it is the right fit for you.   When we connect for that visit, I will have several questions for you to answer in the best way you can at that time.  Together we will establish a foundation for what we would do next.

With any energy work it is important to be clear on our intention for what happens. It is surprising how much of what we think about affects what happens.

I will use a hand scan as well as a pendulum to check your chakras and field. Depending on the situation, we may choose to use some colour projection and music as well as either Therapeutic Touch or Reiki. Or a bit of both. I may also suggest such things as guided visualization, some Emotional Freedom Technique or other techniques I know can be effective.   

From my experience and reading it seems that generally energy work is most effective with problems that are stress related and connected to the Autonomic Nervous System.  

I know that you can expect to feel much more relaxed with a higher sense of well being.  We have to let your body do what it needs to and is able to do best. There are no guarantees. But being in the best place energetically gives your body the best environment in which to balance and heal itself.

 I usually suggest that people schedule 4 or 5 appointments about a week or so apart depending on the assessment and our schedules. Then perhaps every 4 to 6 weeks if things are evening out. Initially I suggest you just come for one session to be sure that you feel it is the right fit for you. Then further sessions would be decided together so that it is in your best interest.

Tip #3: Tap into your inner wisdom.

 
Some people find this scary to think about.  Just take it slowly.  We all do have wisdom.  No real need to call it inner wisdom.    Wisdom is always inner.  How do you find it?
 
Wisdom is hard to find when the mind is chatting away and we seem to be on a problem solving trip.  When we get caught up in our emotions, when we feel the turmoil of any situation, it is difficulty to find wisdom. 
 
Here are 3 things that may help you find your wisdom in confusing moments:
  1. Don’t feel you have to say or do anything right away.  Assuming you are not in an emergency situation, it is important to let the situation sit with you for a bit.  It may be as simple as not agreeing to sit on another committee until “sleeping on it”.  Usually the next day provides you with the wise answer you want to give. 
  2. Learn to recognize your wisdom.  It is more intuitive than logical.  It comes quickly in short blurts of insights as opposed to lengthy dialogues in your head.
  3. In fact don’t look for wisdom in your head.  It isn’t there.  Just be with a dilemma. Consciously open yourself to a solution rather than trying to find one.  It will come to you.
Take it slowly.  Allow it to happen.  Recognize and acknowledge it.  Your wisdom is there for you.

Tip #2: Unclutter Your Life

 

Unclutter your life and notice what is left when the clutter is gone. It is there that lies hidden the real you. You won’t find what is meaningful for you if you fill every second with things to do and places to go. It doesn’t lie in busyness.

 Meaning lies in the quiet times when you listen to the birds in the morning or the leaves rustling with evening breezes. It lies in the times you quietly watch a tot play with a new toy or a six year old learn to ride a bike. It lies in the moments when you are not filling your mind with chatter or your vocal chords with continuous talk.

 Unclutter your life and notice what is there when the clutter of driving here and there, buying this and that, chatting with this one and that one has stopped and it is just you. Just notice. Breathe deeply and feel the nurturing life flow through every cell and feel gratitude for the body you inhabit. Just notice the sensual experience of being alive at this moment now. Just notice whatever wants to be noticed.

 Just notice. That is the first step in being more conscious. Notice. Noticing has an effect in itself.

Once your noticing has given you clarity, then decide on one action you will take to incorporate some of that stillness into your life. Let me know what you notice and what you do with that.

Enjoy noticing the quiet calmness around you and smile.

Meaningful Life Choices Tip #1

Do you start thinking about fall planning as soon as we get into August like I do?  For me, September is as much the beginning of a new year as January is.  How do you make decisions about what you will do or not do in the fall? 
 
Good preplanning for wise choices involves some self awareness.  Have you given any thought to what is important to you?  Does life seem to just fill up without giving conscious thought to what to fill it with.  This seems true whether you are busy with young children and full time jobs, or approaching or experiencing retirement.  Over the next few e-zines, I will give some tips on how you can make more meaningful choices no matter what the situation.
 
Tip #1:  What do you most enjoy?
Perhaps like me, you often leave this till the end and if there is time, you add in something that would be enjoyable.   Sometimes life gets filled with a whole bunch of “have to’s” and “shoulds” before even noticing what you love doing.   When did you last do something you really enjoyed? 
 
Over the next week or so, pay attention to what is enjoyable – things that can be included as fall activities.  Maybe it is related to music, or outdoor activities, or gourmet cooking?  Maybe it relates to animals or plants?
 
Just notice.  That is the first step in being more conscious.  Notice.  Noticing has an effect in itself.
Once your noticing has given you clarity, then decide on one action you will take to incorporate some of that enjoyment into your life.  Let me know what you notice and what you do with that.
I love music and want to give that more attention this fall.  I am contemplating joining a singing group like Sweet Adelines.  Perhaps I’ll buy an ipod and speakers and reorganize the music I already have.  Maybe I will buy season tickets to the Symphony.  Or perhaps I’ll take in a musical in the Entertainment District of Toronto.  I have just been noticing how I would enjoy any or all of those things.  Just noticing.  Hmmmmm.
